Montenegro Election Coup Claim is 'Excuse to Arrest Opponents of NATO Accession'
BELGRADE (Sputnik) — Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic on Thursday refuted media saying that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's upcoming visit to Serbia has connection to the foiled coup in Montenegro.

"I would like to draw media's attention to this, because I have already read somewhere that Lavrov is coming in connection to the coup attempt in Montenegro. He is coming for the bilateral meetings with Serbian authorities on December 12, and on [December] 13 he will participate in the ministerial conference of BSEC, these are the goals of this visit," Dacic said at a press conference.

According to Dacic, the Serbian and Russian foreign ministers had agreed to meet at least twice a year.

The Serbian foreign minister also said that top diplomats from 12 countries will take part in BSEC summit, including Turkey's Mevlut Cavusoglu, whose country is the next BSEC chair.

On October 16, the parliamentary elections day in Montenegro, 20 people were detained and 14 of them arrested for planning to conduct attacks, targeting both civilian population and high-ranking statesmen, and to seize the parliament's building.

On November 6, Montenegro's prosecutor Milivoje Katnic was quoted by the media as alleging that "nationalists from Russia" planned to stage a government overthrow last month, clarifying that "we don't have any evidence that the state of Russia is involved in any sense." The Russian government refuted the claims.
