ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkey has been conducting the Euphrates Shield military operation in northern Syria since August 24.

“Turkey supports territorial integrity of Syria and it will not let the terrorists of PKK, PYD and the self-defense forces of Syrian Kurds to create a terrorist corridor in northern Syria,” the NSC said in a statement released after six-hour night session of the NSC chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish troops are trying to prevent the armed wing of the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), considered by Ankara to be a terror group allied to the domestically-outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), from creation of a corridor with another Kurdish enclave near the Turkish border.
