KANPUR: Demonetisation is now taking its toll on bank staff. On Tuesday, a bank manager in UP's Farrukhabad district was threatened by an anonymous caller on phone to give him cash or face dire consequences. The bank official has lodged a complaint with the police to ensure his safety and that of his family.
Sunil Kumar Dhawan, a manager at Aryavart Gramin Bank's Majhola branch, filed a complaint with Mau Darwaza police in Farrukhabad stating that he received a threat call on Tuesday evening from an anonymous caller, who warned him of dire consequences if he failed to provide him cash at the earliest.

"We are looking into the call received by Dhawan, a resident of Khatrana locality," said SO Mau Darwaza Sanjiv Kumar. Since the caller is not known to the complainant, we are looking into all possible angles, he added.
According to the FIR registered by the bank manager, the caller abused him when asked to reveal his identity. "Without revealing his name, the caller said he is a senior judicial officer and threatened me saying 'rupaye nahi de rahe ho, tumhe dekh lenge' (You are not giving me money, I will see you). The caller also said he would visit my house and teach me a lesson," the manager stated in his complaint. Dhawan added in the complaint that he tried to pacify the caller and requested for some time to speak to his seniors to find a way out, but the man misbehaved and threatened him with dire consequences.
Following the phone call, Dhawan alerted Mau Darwaza police station in charge, who instructed his juniors to trace the caller and get other details regarding him. The SO said that as per the bank manager, there was no disbursement of cash from his bank on Tuesday and the caller seems to be an "unsatisfied" bank customer, who threatened him of dire consequences. "A case has been lodged and investigations are underway. The mobile phone, used for making the threat call, is switched off," the police officer told TOI.
