Palermo has fired its coach for the second time this season, replacing Roberto De Zerbi with Eugenio Corini after getting eliminated from the Italian Cup by second-division Spezia. Spezia beat Palermo 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw Wednesday. Palermo is also last in Serie A, with only one win and six points from 14 matches.
De Zerbi had replaced Davide Ballardini two matches into the Serie A season. Corini previously coached Chievo Verona and played for Palermo from 2003-07, helping the Sicilian club return to the top division after a 32-year absence as captain.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has made almost 60 coaching changes in 29 years as club owner. It’s the fourth coaching change in Serie A since the season began.
