Delhi: Visibility drops to nil as dense fog grips region, flight operations suspended

Moderate to dense fog will occur over plains of North and East India including Delhi, NCR on Thursday and similar weather conditions expected for another six days.

New Delhi, Dec 1: Dense fog continues to shroud Delhi, National Capital Region, Punjab and other northern states of India for the second consecutive day today. Operations at the Delhi Airport have been temporarily suspended as dense fog brings the visibility below 50 meters. As per reports by Sky Met weather, moderate to dense fog will occur over plains of North and East India including Delhi, NCR for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

As per recent reports, at least 12 vehicles crash into each other due to dense fog at Yamuna expressway in Mathura. One person has been killed and more than 10 have been injured in the deadly accident during the early hours of Thursday. As per reports by Sky Met weather, Palam Observatory reported very dense fog, dropping visibility to zero. As a result, several flights have been re-scheduled or delayed.  The day maximums are likely to drop marginally, while minimum temperatures may rise over the region.

In Northeast India, the cyclonic circulation continues to prevail over Mizoram and adjoining areas. With this, isolated rain will continue over the region. As per reports by Sky Met weather, operations at the Delhi Airport has been shut down as the visibility remains on the lower side and weathermen predict Delhi-NCR will continue to be under the grip of moderate to dense fog and similar weather conditions may prevail for another 24 hours.(ALSO READ: Dense fog grips Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, similar weather conditions expected for another six days)

On Wednesday,  northern India witnessed its first foggy day. The first fog this season led to the delay of a total of 18 flights and 50 north-bound trains and 13 flights have been diverted so far from Delhi’s IGI airport.  As per railway officials, 50 Delhi-bound services from Patna, Ranchi, Howrah, Bhubaneswar and other places were affected due to the thick fog cover. “The trains were running late between one to three hours,” an official said.
