FBI, NTRO fail to retrieve data from Uri GPS

FBI, NTRO fail to retrieve data from Uri GPS
NEW DELHI: Hope of retracing the route taken by the Uri fidayeen from Pakistan has dimmed with the US agency FBI as well as National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), which specialises in technical surveillance, failing to retrieve any data from the GPS set recovered from the attackers.
“The GPS set was badly burnt in the encounter. NIA first sent it to NTRO for analysis, which despite its best efforts failed to recover details of locations entered but later deleted by the fidayeen.
It then passed on the set to FBI, which had advanced capabilities, but it is learnt that the US agency too failed to retrieve the data,“ a senior officer of the security establishment told TOI.
The failure to identify the terrorists and now the non-retrieval of GPS data is being seen as a setback to attempts of the NIA to make a water-tight case against the Pakistan-based terror outfit.
