UoG students get laptops

GUJRAT-A ceremony to distribute laptops was held here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Monday.
Addressing the ceremony, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Jaffar Iqbal said, “The government is committed to facilitating talented students’ academic journey and promoting higher education in the country. Our youth hold the key to the nation’s bright future. After successfully completing your educational career, you must work day and day for the progress of the country.”
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum, with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Director General IT Anwar Amjad as the guest of honour.
Registrar Dr Tahir Aqil, Additional Controller Examinations Ahmad Jamil Turk, and Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid were also present.
Welcoming the government’s move to provide the most modern and expensive gadgetry to higher education students as a means to prop up the country’s development, Dr Zia said, “The University of Gujrat is the quintessence of the last decade’s renewed interest in higher education. The PM’s laptop scheme is an important step which will go a long way in facilitating our youth’s academic journey. Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) is working on a number of other projects to equip the country’s universities with the most modern and latest technologies.”
He threw ample light on UoG policy of merit- and need-based scholarships, reiterating that the UoG would continue financial support of all its intelligent and deserving students till the completion of their studies.
Anwar Amjad said that the government distributed about 100,000 laptops to the talented students each year.
“Almost 80 percent students of the country’s higher education institutes will benefit from the scheme,” he said, adding that the Smart University Project of the HEC will also see the light of the day soon.
The ceremony was organised by Director SSC Muhammad Yaqoob and Director University Advancement and Financial Aid Office Tanzeela Qamar and their teams.
