VADODARA: One person died and three others were critical following gas leak in ETP (effluent treatment plant) of K A Maale Pharmaceuticals in Ankleshwar GIDC on Tuesday evening.
Bichhoo Thakor, Pawan Singh, Gopal Prasad and Vishwanath Thakor, all originally from Bihar, were cleaning the ETP when all four of them fainted due to leakage of poisonous gas.
They were rushed to Ankleshwar-based Jayaben Modi hospital and later to a private hospital.
Bichhoo (43) died during treatment while the condition of other three is said to be critical.
“When they were working in the plant, they faced difficulty in breathing due to gas leakage and within few minutes they fainted,” said Pankaj Singh, who also works at the company.
Sources said that ETP plant is a waste disposal plant and there are chances of gas leakage from the waste that is disposed there.
The Ankleshwar GIDC police station has registered a case of accidental death.
“After we receive reports from forensic science laboratory, factory inspector and Gujarat Pollution Control Board, we will take action against the company if any negligence is found in upkeep and maintenance of the plant,” said Sandeep Singh, superintendent of police, Bharuch.
