CBI steps in to trace kidnapped Odisha girl

In September 29, 2016 the High Court directed the CBI to take up the investigation.

Hyderabad: Following the directions High Court of Orissa, the Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case of kidnapping of a girl student of Balasore Kendirya Vidyalaya. Accordingly, the premier investigating agency has lodged an FIR against two school teachers.

The FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the IPC against Mr Suresh Ch. Das and Reeta Sahu of Kendriya Vidyalaya Central School Chhak Balasore.

The duo have been accused of kidnapping, abducting or compelling woman to marry, criminal intimidation, abetment, acts done in furtherance of common intention.

The case originally dates back to December 2014. Aggrieved over the inaction by the police in rescuing their daughter from the kidnappers, the complainant (name with held) had filed a writ petition in 2015 in High Court of Orissa seeking transfer of the case to the CBI.

In September 29, 2016 the HC directed the CBI to take up the investigation.

CID Odisha Police in its status report to the High Court said that inspite of several efforts, they had failed to trace the kidnapped girl. The CID also said that it has limited resources to carry out a search throughout the country.
