COIMBATORE: The Periyanaickenpalayam and Thudiyalur Police have sent a police officer to a hospital to check if Radha Pandian signed a consent form to donate her eggs. Radha had filed a police complaint stating that a group of women had lured her to Kerala, with the promise of a job, but forced her to donate her eggs.
The victim had filed a complaint stating three women, including her neighbours Jeeva, lured her to Azhuva promising her a job.
When she landed in Kerala, she was told that she would have to take care of old people for Rs1,000 a day. Only after she was made to undergo five days of medical tests, did she realise that they were trying to extract eggs from her ovary. Police began enquiring into the complaint filed on Friday. “We began questioning Jeeva. The woman claims that Radha, a BA graduate, was aware that she was going to Kerala to donate eggs. She needed money and was willing to donate her eggs. Jeeva claimed Radha changed her story because she was unable to produce eggs,” said M Ravishankar, DSP, Periyanaickenpalayam.
“We consulted the government lawyer and medical officer, who said that hospitals would have got her to sign consent forms before beginning the treatment to extract the egg. So if she does sign the forms, there is no scope for her to file a complaint,” he said.
“Being an educated woman, she can’t claim that she signed the forms without reading it,” said Ravishankar explaining why an FIR was not registered even on Tuesday after the enquiries. “If we do register the FIR, it will be against the doctor and hospital also. We cant do that without speaking to the doctors first,” he added.
