The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) head office, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, has appointed Joginder Kumar Yadav, in charge, Chandigarh Regional Centre, as the new regional director of its Jammu Regional Centre replacing KK Bhat, who has been directed to report back to the head office.

Sources said in August this year, the IGNOU head office had appointed KK Bhat as the regional director of its Khanna Regional Centre in Ludhiana but he did not join. They said his refusal to join the new posting was one of the main reasons behind this move by the IGNOU head office.

“Interestingly, from the date of establishment of IGNOU’s Jammu Regional Centre at Commerce College in 1998 till 2007 (before Bhat took over as the regional director), as many as 12 regional directors were changed. KK Bhat was also one of them who joined as a regional director in 1999 but his tenure was very brief,” the sources added.

However, the new regional director, Joginder Kumar Yadav, while talking to The Tribune, said, “It is a great responsibility to be the head of one of the important regional centres having a decent enrollment of aspirants.”

When asked about addressing the issues of aspirants hailing from far-flung areas and the decision regarding shifting of the regional centre, the new regional director replied, “We are trying our best to provide every possible support to the aspirants. As far as shifting of the centre is concerned, the decision in this regard is yet to be taken.”

The Jammu centre is having an enrollment of more than 40,000 students. It has a network of 66 learning study centres across the Jammu region including 16 regular study centres, 22 programme study centres, 24 special study centres and four jail study centres.
