AHMEDABAD: In a bid to give much needed relief to the people of Kutch waiting to get passport, the Ahmedabad Regional Passport office has decided to set up a Laghu seva kendra at the post office in Bhuj.
The regional passport officer Neelam Rani said that the ministry of external affairs on the request has sanctioned a Laghu Kendra for Bhuj. The post office at Bhuj will not only receive the application but will process them there only.
Once the application is granted, the Ahmedabad RPO will print the same here.
She said that this kendra will save time and will prevent those seeking passport from coming to Ahmedabad. She further said that this was the need of the hour and has been finally sanctioned.
Rani further said that the Ahmedabad RPO has also begun a student connect program for the students seeking passport. A student with the identity card of the education institute can walk into any passport seva kendra and get his application process. The students will not require any prior appointment and can walk in between 2 and 4 pm on all working days.
“Students usually wait for the college tenure to end and then apply for passports and then make a rush to get the passport when needed. In order to save them, we are extending this special program for the students,” said Rani. Nowadays, students travel to different parts of the world for purposes like competitions, higher studies, career opportunities and student exchange programmes and hence thus program will help them to get passport in time,” said the RPO.
