Minister Shankar Chaudhary’s ‘fake’ degree: Gujarat HC asks cops to complete probe, take right action

The petition had been filed by Patan-based Congress worker Farsu Goklani, alleging that the minister had a “fake” MBA degree and hence an FIR should be lodged against him.

The Gujarat High Court Wednesday disposed of a petition seeking FIR against state minister for health and family welfare, Shankar Chaudhary, for allegedly having a forge degree. Justice J B Pardiwala, while disposing of the petition, directed the police to conclude the inquiry into the allegation and file FIR if offence is made out. The court also said that if offence was not made out, it should share the report with the petitioner.

The petition had been filed by Patan-based Congress worker Farsu Goklani, alleging that the minister had a “fake” MBA degree and hence an FIR should be lodged against him. According to Goklani’s allegation, Chaudhary had got an MBA degree from the National Institute of Management, Vadodara, a year after completing class XII in 2011. Goklani said that no one can get an MBA degree in just one year.

During the court proceedings, the state government told the court that the inquiry was on. Following this submission, Justice Pardiwala disposed of the petition, directing the police to complete its inquiry and take appropriate action.

Goklani said that the court had directed the police that if the inquiry finds out that there was an offence, an FIR should be lodged and if no offence is made out, the report should be shared with the petitioner. Earlier, Goklani had filed a PIL in the HC on the same ground, but the court asked him to approach it after exhausting all legal options. He went to the Supreme Court which upheld the decision of the High Court.
