KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Wednesday a ‘gangster’ to death for murdering four members of a family in a grisly manner three years ago.

Yasin Baloch, said to be linked with a notorious gang in Lyari, was found guilty of murdering Muzaffar Baig, his wife, their two sons and injuring their pregnant daughter in Maripur in December 2013.

Another suspect, Wajid Baloch, was, however, released due to lack of evidence against him. The ATC-V judge awarded capital punishment to Yasin on four counts of murder and also sentenced him to 10 years in prison on charges of attempted murder and carrying illicit weapons.

The prosecution also maintained that the gangsters raped the deceased woman and her pregnant daughter before firing shots on them. This, however, could not be proved in court.

The judgment against two other suspects, who were tried separately under the juvenile justice system, is also due on Thursday.
