JAMMU, Nov 29: Present-ation of an experimental play in Assamese language titled ‘Life Canvas’ by Sarsa Theatre Group from Sipajhar, Assam, marked the second day of ongoing National Poorvottar Rang Utsav, at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Written and directed by Dr. Asim Kumar Nath, the play-revolving around friends who have varying views about life and love-emerges as a philosophical take on changing times, growing complexity of social relationships, variety in life styles and the concomitant ideological differences.
The highly symbolic thematic content of the play mirroring emotions like love and hate, hope and despair, happiness and sorrow, was presented in a distinct idiom wherein the emphasis was more on physical or body movements rather than dialogues.
With the result, today’s play, a collage of modern as well as elements from Assam’s traditional theatre forms that combine signs or paintings, songs, music and dance, was  a novel experience for the Jammu audience who applauded the aesthetic groupings, fluidity of well choreographed dexterous body movements of the young actors that effectively brought forth range and intensity of emotions.
The live musical score providing the narrative as well as emotive anchorage to the dramatic action along with highly stylized light design added to the overall success of today’s experimental play.
Tomorrow, on the third day of the Poorvottar Rang Utsav, Bharatendu Harishchandra play in Manipuri language will be performed by Deal Repertory Theatre, Manipur under the direction of Pukhrambam Khogendro Singh.
