Over 18,000 women issued ‘Amma’ baby kit in Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: The Tamil Nadu government has issued a total of 18,891 Amma baby care kits, worth Rs2.26 crore, to pregnant women across Krishnagiri district since September 2015 till date, said Krishnagiri collector C Kathiravan.
The state government had launched the ‘Amma’ baby care kit for mothers of newborn babies on September 13, 2015. The kit comprises of 16 types of products, like a baby towel, dress, mosquito net, oil, baby soap, liquid sanitizer, and a ‘legiyam’ – a medicinal preparation to improve mother’s health.
The district administration had launched the scheme on the same date and issued the kit to women who delivered at any of the six government hospitals and 41 primary health centres in the district.

According to the collector, the scheme has received a good response. “The kit was distributed to about 10,631 women in the six government hospitals and 8,260 women in 41 primary health centres,” Kathiravan said.
