Supporters of the Madhesi Morcha obstructed the district-level discussion programme of the Local Level Restructuring Committee in Rajbiraj on Tuesday. The event was organised in a meeting hall of the District Development Committee Office.

Morcha activists chanted slogans against the technical committee of the LLRC and burnt banners of the programme after its members started discussion, leading to the meet’s cancellation. The Morcha had obstructed the LLRC’s programmes in the past too.

Five local units proposed for Chitwan

In Chitwan, the technical committee has recommended five local units. The LLRC had directed the committee to modify the restructuring proposals after some residents of the Chitrawan and Narayani municipalities and Kabilash reached the commission’s office on November 25 demanding restructuring of the local units. The commission officials had directed the team to modify the proposal after discussion within three days. The committee had earlier proposed seven local units for the district.

Dhankuta’s division revised to seven

The technical committee in Dhankuta proposed seven local units for the district. The committee had revised its earlier decision after some of the locals of Chhintang, Sagurigadhi and Aathpahariya protested against the LLRC proposal.

In Bardiya, residents of Khairichandanpur VDC have postponed their protest by one day after the officials agreed to organise an all-party meeting on Wednesday. The villagers had called an indefinite banda in Khairichandanpur and its vicinity demanding that the VDC be included in Rajapur Municipality. The villagers were protesting after the technical team of the LLRC proposed putting the VDC under a village council.
