SALEM: A Dindigul-based mimicry artist was arrested on Monday by Mettur police in Salem for mimicking the voice of Tamil Nadu electricity minister P Thangamani, to transfer an official from one department to another in a Thermal power unit.
A month ago, assistant engineer Jayakumar was transferred from the power production unit to the coal handling section. State electricity minister P Thangamani had apparently contacted higher officials in the thermal unit to execute the transfer.
Meanwhile, Jayakumar was suspended a week ago. When Jayakumar approached the minister, he found out that the minister had not made any calls. Officials sought the help of Mettur police regarding this.
Police examined the call details from officials' mobile phones. They found that mimicry artist Savari Muthu from Dindigul had contacted an official in the unit and had ordered Jayakumar's transfer, and arrested him.
