CBI court convicts insurance officer

Principle special judge for CBI cases at Vizag T Surya Rao on Tuesday convicted an administrative officer of an insurance company to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000 for abusing his official position as public servant and accepting bribe for settlement of three claims.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Principle special judge for CBI cases at Vizag T Surya Rao on Tuesday convicted an administrative officer of an insurance company to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000 for abusing his official position as public servant and accepting bribe for settlement of three claims.
According to CBI SP R Gopala Krishna Rao, Thota Venkata Satyanrayana, the administrative officer of United India Insurance Company Limited at Ravulapalem of East Godavari district, in connivance with general insurance surveyor at Bhimavaram in West Godavari AV Ramana, demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 17,000 from a complainant through Ramana.

The administrative officer demanded the money for settlement of three claims amounting to Rs 85,000 pertaining to three dead milch cows that belonged to Sri Balaji Dairy Farm of Chebrolu. The surveyor was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. Later, Satyanarayana was also caught red handed accepting the amount from Ramana, who was acquitted from the charges levelled against him. But Satyanarayana was convicted under sections 7 and 13 (1) (D) read with 13 (2) of PC Act, 1988.
