The Grinch is stealing Christmas at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
A VA supervisor in the agency’s Philadelphia office sent out an urgent email memo Tuesday warning employees to remove a Christmas tree that someone had decorated in the office.
“There is a Christmas tree, ornaments, and decorations in the cubicle across from Luis Stevenson’s desk (the same cubicle where the scanner is housed),” wrote VA supervisor Rebecca Cellucci. “If this belongs to you, please claim it. Otherwise, it will be discarded on Friday.”
The email was marked “high” importance.
A VA employee who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals told The Washington Times that the email was “chilling.”
“Either management has a policy against any mention of Christmas or religion, or they are absolutely tone deaf, to talk about executing a Christmas tree a couple of weeks before Christmas,” the employee said.
The tree was still standing in the office as of late Tuesday afternoon.
“It’ll be there till Friday, so there’s a countdown to the execution of the tree,” the employee said. “It has 72 hours of life left.”
Ms. Cellucci did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
