Kolkata: Man kills wife over ‘domestic dispute’, hurts daughter who tries to intervene

They rang the doorbell and found blood coming out of the flat. Pooja Kapoor, who opened the door, had blood all over her body.  The neighbours then found Rashmi lying on the floor in a pool of blood while Vikas, who was also bleeding, was sitting beside her.

They immediately contacted the police and took Rashmi to a Baranagar government hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.  Pooja, who received serious injuries, was referred to R G Kar Hospital. Vikas has been undergoing treatment at Baranagar State Government Hospital. As per police sources, the neighbours claimed to have heard the couple arguing since 11 pm the previous night.

“The accused is under treatment, and what actually happened is not yet known. The motive is not clear. As per neighbours, Vikas is the one who attacked the other two. Once we register the daughter’s statement, it will be clear. Currently, she is not in a position to speak,” said an officer.

The Kapoor family had been residing on the second floor of their building, and were not on good terms with each other, according to sources.

On Monday night, following a verbal fight between the couple, Vikas allegedly attacked Rashmi with a knife and injured Pooja when she tried to save her mother.

Rashmi’s family has lodged a complaint against Vikas, on the basis of which Baranagar police has initiated a murder case against him.
