Settled Aussies will go hard for Chappell-Hadlee series - Blackcaps coach Mike Hesson

Blackcaps coach Mike Hesson expects a huge challenge from Australia as the focus quickly switches to one-day mode ahead of the opening match of the Chappell-Hadlee series.

The team sealed a Test series whitewash with a remarkable 138-run win over Pakistan in Hamilton on Tuesday.

And it might be the best time to face a down-and-out Australia in a one-day series with their rivals coming off a morale-sapping home series loss to South Africa.

However, Hesson said he'd be surprised if any of the disharmony that plague the Australian Test side lingered over its one day team.

"Their one day side is very settled - it's experienced," Hesson said.

"I think they're still number one in the world in one day cricket.  Their squad is significantly more settled than their Test squad has been."

The Blackcaps coach also said they'll have it all to do if they're going to get a result in a series on typically batting-friendly pitches.

"They know the conditions well in front of some good crowds.

"I'm sure they're going to want to get that Chappell-Hadlee back."

Instead of lamenting the loss of Ross Taylor, who was expected to have eye surgery today and miss the next four to six weeks, Hesson said while his one day squad didn't have experience, it had x-factor.

"Ross wasn't with us the last time we won the Chappel-Hadlee.

"It's an exciting squad...It may not be particularly experienced but it's still an exciting squad."
