NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman, Seema, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in north Delhi’s Wazirabad on Monday.
Seema apparently had an altercation with her husband Rakesh (27) before she took the extreme step. Her body was found by her father-in-law, Pooran Lal, who informed police.
The couple got married five years ago and had two daughters.

“We received a call around 5pm, after which Seema’s parents were also informed. The body has been sent for postmortem,” said a senior officer.
According to police, Seema’s parents alleged that Rakesh had been harassing her for dowry. However, Rakesh, a driver by profession, told cops that he had an argument with Seems over some domestic issues, after which he left for work. Rakesh said that he was later informed about the incident by his father.
Seema’s in-laws told police that she had gone to her room after the argument and locked the door. When she did not respond to her daughters’ call, Lal broke open the door and found her body, police said.
The couple belonged to Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Wazirabad after marriage.
A case of suicide has been registered at Timarpur police station. The sub-divisional magistrate has recorded the statements of both the families and inquest proceedings have been initiated.
