Abu Dhabi: The Cambridge High School, champions of the UAE Xchange U19 Abu Dhabi School League for the last five years, were sent packing from the semi-finals by Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Pakistan School.

The champions were bowled out for 57 in reply to Pakistan School’s 126 for nine to go down by 69 runs at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council’s Nursery Oval-2.

Pakistan School meet Abu Dhabi Indian School, winners by nine wickets over Bright Riders, in the final at the Shaikh Zayed Cricket stadium on Wednesday at 9am.

Cambridge electing to field first struck two early blows to get rid of Khalid Mahmoud (4) and Shah Faisal (6), the captain and the UAE U19 international. Both fell to medium pacer Shrenik Jain.

However, useful contributions from opener Malik Saad (28), Rehan Azam (20) and Anwar Khan (41), plus some poor fielding on the outfield, saw them post a challenging total.

Karthik Meiyappan, another UAE U19 player, and Mohammad Azzan, both leg spinners, were the pick of the Cambridge attack with figures of 4-0-12-1 and 3-0-11-2 respectively.

Cambridge had a disastrous start. Pavan Kumar, the in-form batsman, was run out in the second over to a poor call from his captain Justin D’Souza and Faisal had Abhishek Prakash’s (0) off stump knocked back in the next over.

Faisal produced another bowler when he had Meiyappan caught behind and Faizanullah Khan got one through the defences of D’Souza (8) to leave Cambridge struggling at 21 for four, a position from which they never recovered.

Faisal returned with three for 16 from four overs and off-spinner Azam mopped up the lower order to finish with four for 11 from 3.2 overs.

ADIS made short work of Bright Riders, whom they restricted to 77 for nine and hit the winning runs in 12 overs.
