When Mika Singh debuted as a singer with Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag in 1998, his elder brother, Daler Mehndi, was already a pop icon. Over the years, music aficionados have waited with bated breath for the two musicians to come together. The wait ended recently when they launched their first collaboration, Sohniye. The single
is a foot-tapping number with Punjabi beats.

Daler says when Mika shared the idea of the single with him, he loved it. "The collaboration was Mika's idea. When I heard the recording, I told him it was wonderful and he must go ahead with it. But, he said he wanted me to sing with him. Mika is 10 years younger to me and I can do anything for him," says the Dardi Rab Rab singer.

Mika is elated over finally getting the opportunity to collaborate with his brother. "Daler paaji is my guru and mentor. Though we have performed together in the past, this is our first official collaboration," says Mika, adding that working on the number was an amazing experience. "The song is a combination of our individual styles. It took us over a year to compose the song because we had to keep Daler paaji's style and range in mind."

The video of Sohniye was shot in Delhi. "But it has been done so wonderfully that it looks like it has been filmed in an international destination," says Daler, who lost over 20 kilos for the video. "Mika wanted both of us to look similar in the video. And for that, I had to lose a lot of weight," he says. Was shedding the extra pounds difficult? "Main mann ka bahut pakka hoon. Isliye wazan ghataana mere liye mushkil nahi tha [Since I am a determined person, losing weight was not so difficult for me]," responds Daler.

Both brothers insist that Sohniye is just the tip of the iceberg and they plan to team up for more projects. Currently, they are touring the UK for shows and promoting the song. "It's after 20 years that we are performing together on stage," says Daler.
