Protests draw lukewarm response
VISAKHAPATNAM: Left Parties, YSRCP and the Congress staged protests at various places in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on Monday against demonetisation but received a lukewarm response from the public.
Cops arrested more than 300 agitators in the morning. Following the arrest, there were no hiccups in public and private transportation. RTC authorities plied buses while schools, banks and business establishments remained opened the entire day.

In the city, the Left parties staged rallies from Gandhi Statue at RTC complex to various places and also at Gajuwaka. Some cadres of the YSRCP tried to stop busses at NAD Kotta Road, Jagadamba Junction, but were arrested by the police. Former MLA Malla Vijayaprasad, Ch Prasada Reddy, district party president Gudiwada Amarnath, Vamsikrishna, Koyya Prasad Reddy, Ravi Reddy and others were arrested for obstructing traffic. At Jagadamba Junction, YSRCP leader Kola Guruvulu, John Wesley and others were arrested.
In Srikakulam, YSRCP leader Tammineni Seetaram and V Kalavathi were among leaders taken into custody by cops. Around 15 workers of various parties too were arrested for obstructing buses at the RTC Depot.
