Train and car removed from tracks after collision

Train services between Nambour and Caboolture have resumed after a freight train and vehicle collision just before 5am.

The vehicle and freight train were removed from the train tracks at Landsborough just after 9am a Translink spokesperson said.

A car and freight train collision north of Brisbane is causing major delays for rail commuters on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called Caloundra Street at Landsborough after reports an empty cattle train had crashed into a sedan at the railway crossing just before 5am.

Sunshine Coast police were investigating after preliminary information suggested the vehicle had been stolen earlier Tuesday morning from Landsborough.

There was no-one inside the vehicle when paramedics arrived. The train driver was assessed however did not require transport to hospital.

It is understood the freight train pushed the vehicle along the tracks for about 100 metres before coming to a stop.

Trains between Nambour and Caboolture have been suspended and commuters can expect hour-long delays as buses replace trains.

The vehicle had been removed and a replacement 'cattle catcher', a device mounted to the front of the train to deflect obstacles, was being fitted, police said.
