Naqvi said the Congress-led opposition to the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes was in contravention to the popular mood of the nation.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "The demonetisation move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to be most beneficial to the poor and marginalised classes of Indian citizens, therefore, for the minorities, that have long been pushed to the margins of development by black money hoarders and those who have been corrupt."

Attacking the Congress, Naqvi said, "Why is the Congress feeling troubled due to PM's fight against black money? Their aakrosh (anger) is not against demonetisation, but against the blockade of black money."

While he dubbed Opposition's attacks on Modi as "hue and cry over bankruptcy of those who had hoarded black money", Naqvi said the Congress-led opposition to the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes was in contravention to the popular mood of the nation.

"Today, the entire nation and every section of the society is with the Prime Minister in this decisive war against corruption and black money. This is a war, which the people of the country were waiting for, for the last about seven decades. Action against corruption and black money had been a slogan of streets, slogans of political parties and a part of their poll manifesto, but it never translated into reality."

"The Congress had left a legacy of scams, corruption and open loot of public money. But, without doing politics on this, the Modi Government proved that if there is an honest will by the leadership, it can change the government as well as the system. The Congress came into power at the Centre for about 11 times by giving slogan of 'Gareebi Hatao-Bhrashtachar Mitao'. But it never fought against the disease of corruption," Naqvi added.
