NAGPUR: City police chief K Venkatesh has formulated a policy to reign in elusive gangsters Sheikhu Khan and Sumeet Chintalnar wanted in the firing case following their clash with the owner and his employees of Lahoree Deluxe Bar and Restaurant on West High Court Road on November 13. The top cop is planning to seize properties of the dreaded gangsters to turn the screws on them.

Khan and Chintalnar, learnt to be part of so-called ‘Maya gang’, have managed to remain out of the police dragnet despite searches by both crime branch and Sitabuldi police squads. Only a few of Khan’s and Chintalnar’s accomplices involved in the fracas have been netted, the cops could not even nab Pappu Dagor who shot couple of rounds towards bar owner Sameer Sharma.
CP Venkatesh told TOI that the police are planning to corner the goons through legal measures. “They have amassed a lot of illegal wealth. We are trying to examine the quantum of wealth and its market value. Our next step would be to commence procedure to seize property owned by these goons so that they feel a pinch than going behind bars,” said the top cop. The CP did not rule out the possibility of the goons possessing benami properties.
Venkatesh also said that the police have received inputs regarding whereabouts of the goons.
Senior PI SM Bandiwar of Sitabuldi police station said searches are being conducted relentlessly to net the goons. “We are hoping to nab them shortly,” he said.
THE PLAN
* Cops to assess wealth and other assets of the gangsters Sheikhu Khan and Sumeet Chintalwar
* Properties may be seized in a bid to bring pressure on them
* Cops also constantly working on inputs about goons’ whereabouts
