Rajinder Kaur Bhagike, sitting Akali MLA from the Nihal Singh Wala (reserved) constituency, today resigned from the party as well as the Vidhan Sabha.

Bhagike has been protesting against the denial of ticket to her for the past several days. She said: “As the party denied to reconsider my claim over the Nihal Singh Wala ticket, I have sent my resignation to the Vidhan Sabha Speaker and the SAD office secretary this morning.”

On her future course of action, Bhagike said she had convened a meeting of her supporters where a final decision would be taken.

While in Nihal Singh Wala, the SAD has replaced Bhagike with SR Kaler, a retired bureaucrat, in Baghapura, Teerath Singh Mahla, Moga district president, has been named party candidate in place of sitting MLA Maheshinder Singh.

Besides these two assembly constituencies of Moga district where the SAD is facing rebellion, the Moga Assembly constituency is also seeing a tug of war between many ticket claimants after sitting MLA Joginder Pal Jain announced not to contest the elections.
