THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Monday rubbished the central security agencies’ claim that Maoists have established a red corridor from Kathmandu to Kanyakumari.
He said the agencies were exaggerating the realities.
“It’s natural that protests and lawlessness take root in a society when dissatisfaction spreads among people. It’s the responsibility of the governments to work towards eliminating the dissatisfactions among people through welfare measures'', he said.
“Maoism is not a law and order issue.
It’s rather a social issue. The Supreme Court too said the same while addressing the anti-Maoist activities of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh governments. The court had said the governments were supposed to hold talks. The CPI national council and the CPI's 22nd party congress too opined the same'', he said.
Kanam, however, said the CPI did not support the Maoist views or killings. “They should join the mainstream. When 30 Maoists were killed by joint forces of Andhra and Odisha, those governments claimed that it was an encounter killing. But people refused to believe such claims. Ten left parties, including the CPI demanded judicial inquiry into the killings.
Kerala should not stoop to the level of some north Indian states that refused to adhere to the 16-point guidelines announced by the Supreme Court before taking on Maoists through violence.

“The magisterial investigation announced by crime branch would throw more light on the Maoist killings in Nilambur,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP national council member V Muraleedharan said the silence of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the Maoist killings was mysterious.
“The CPM silence is mysterious as they called similar Maoist killings in other states as fake encounters,” he said.
