South Korean automaker, SsangYong, takes a leap higher to competitiveness as it plans to launch Tivoli in 2020, the first electric car model in the company's history.
SsangYong's great transformation and new branding venture aims to get its car models electrified within the next four years.
Paul Williams, SsangYong's Head Executive in UK, happily shared this wonderful news to the Brits and journalists in one of his statements. He also added that the design and the engineering teams are already in the works, testing certain prototypes in preparation for Tivoli's launching date.
For the next three years, the company plans to release three new car variants, which may feature electric power vehicle alternatives. It is also speculated that SsangYong will launch the product version of its SIV-2 model, which the company officially showcased in public during March 2016's Geneva Motor Show.
The availability of Nissan Qashqairival seems to be expected in 2019 as well, to go with the commencement of Korando model in the market around that year, Autocar reported.
Tivoli will be deployed in the market as the company's initial public offering of electric cars, followed by another two models by then. Williams also mentioned the company's intention of building a partnership with one of the well-known and bigger firms, even citing BMW as an example, according to Autoevolution's blog post.
The company is under Mahindra, which is currently looking for an automaker to collaborate with and work hand-in-hand in its journey towards developing electric cars.
Due to the high level of financial demands at stake and in store for electric car production, a strong partnership is really a necessity for the South Korean company; it seems to be playing on a small-scale level in the car manufacturing industry for now, which entails higher risk if sales after Tivoli's launching and its other electric vehicle brands does not end lucratively. Thus, having a partnership is the company's best option for now.
It remains to be seen what else the South Korean automaker has in store for us.
