On analysing the IIFT 2016 test paper, the trends show that higher cut off would be applied at the 1st stage shortlisting by IIFT

The IIFT 2016 written exam in paper pen mode for admission to MBA (International Business) 2017-19 batch was held today successfully in 20 test cities across the country from 10AM to 12Noon. Number of questions in all the 4 sections taken together in IIFT 2016 exam was reduced to 123 as against IIFT 2015 which contained 124 questions. On analysing the IIFT 2016 test paper, the trends show that higher cut off would be applied at the 1st stage shortlisting by IIFT.

Easy DI part in LRDI
IIFT 2016 test takers have informed MBAUniverse.com that they found Data Interpretation part in LRDI section much easier than the Logical Reasoning sub-section. Surprisingly, the 20 easy DI questions carried a weightage of 1 mark for each correct answer making it 20% weight to toal 100 marks.

On the other hand LR was found a bit more tough and candidates could attempt fewer questions in this section out of 22 questions carrying a weightage of 0.75 mark for each correct answer making a total weight of 16.5 marks.

Total weightage to LRDI section has increased to 36.5% in IIFT 2016 exam as against 33% in last year.

According to Ankur Garg, who took IIFT 2016 exam at a test centre at Anand Vihar in New Delhi area “I could attempt 7-8 out of 20 questions in DI part pretty easily but found it difficult to reach the same feat in LR sub-section.”

However, as per the preliminary analysis the sectional cut off for  LRDI section will be around 7-8 marks in total. So if Ankur has attempted 12 questions from this section with 80% accuracy he can clear the cut off easily.

Easier RC in VARC section
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension section had 36 questions carrying a weightage of 31% similar to last year.

There were 20 questions on Verbal Ability carrying a weight of 0.75 mark for each correct answer and total weightage of 15 marks. Questions were mostly based on Vocabulary usage and were found a bit tough. Candidates could not go beyond 6-7 questions in VA part of VARC section.

RC was found comparatively easier than last year as it 4 had short passages followed by 16 questions which were also not very tough. Each correct answer for RC based questions carried a weight of 1 mark making a total weight of 16 marks.

Candidates expect to score high as reported by Ankur Garg who attempted more questions in RC part than in VA part.

It is expected that a score of 9 marks will suffice to clear the VARC sectional cut off and may get the call from IIFT for PI round.

Easy Quant: Expect a higher cut off
Quant was stand alone and easier section in IIFT 2016. It had 20 questions as against 22 last year. Weightage of 1 mark for each correct answer in Quant remains the same as that of last year. Accordingly, overall weightage to Quant section has been reduced to 20% in IIFT 2016 exam from 22% in IIFT 2015.

The expected cut off for Quant section in IIFT 2016 exam may increase to 5 marks from 4.34 marks last year.

GK: Weightage reduced
One of the most difficult sections in IIFT exam is the General Awareness (GK). IIFT 2016 has however reduced the weightage of GK section to 12.5% from 14% last year.  Although the weightage is reduced but section was not as difficult as last year. So it is expected that the cut off in GK section in IIFT 2016 exam may increase to 1 mark from 0.82 mark in last year.

There were 25 questions in GK section in IIFT 2016 exam as against 28 questions last year. The weightage to each correct answer remains the same with 0.50 mark.
