Judith Lucy and Denise Scott's new show celebrates life's big disappointments

Judith Lucy and Denise Scott are looking forward to a good lie down when they arrive in Canberra this weekend. On stage that is.

The duo's new show, Disappointments, hits The Playhouse on Sunday night, and according to the ladies is a raucous mix of singing, dancing and "lying down".

Bree Winchester caught up with both comedians to talk about the show, the horrendous year that's been 2016, and Facebook stalking.

Bree Winchester: We're looking forward to welcoming you back ladies!

Judith Lucy: We can't wait to get there. And we're not being sarcastic. We're on a mission to help Canberrans embrace their mediocrity and their shattered dreams.

Denise Scott: The show's got singing and dancing. And we use both of those terms - singing and dancing - very loosely. We bring our own brand of singing and dancing.

Jude: Joie de vivre - that's what we bring to it.

Scotty: And why not celebrate that as well? Why should you have had some training or even be able to sing in tune? Just to perform on stage? And I have to say Bree, I have arthritis as well as not a very functional brain so my dancing is particularly raw.

Bree: How long have you been in rehearsal?

Jude: Oh five YEARS.

Scotty: It feels like it!

Jude: Once upon a time we thought the show was funny and we're not so sure anymore! So we really need Canberra to give us the thumbs up!

Bree: 2016 has been a nightmare year all round, what's been your biggest disappointment?

Jude: We had considered - since the election result - that we'd go to Canberra, the curtain rises and we say "Donald Trump" and walk off stage.

Scotty: End of story.

Jude: There are just so many of them to choose from! I talk about everything in the show from IVF to menopause, losing my orthotic was a disappointment, having construction going on next door to me for over a year's been a disappointment.

Scotty: Life in my 60s has just been an all-round disappointment for me.

Jude: But we don't want your readers to think the show is just a negative thing - the disappointment - we want to share our disappointments, we want the audience to share their disappointments, and ultimately we want to celebrate our disappointments.

Bree: Let's delve into what you're both like online - who do you Facebook stalk?

Jude: I need to confess straight off the bat that I'm not on Facebook, can you believe it? Or Twitter. If I'm going to stalk someone I like to bloody well do it in real life and actually go to where they live. And that takes some doing! What's your address, Bree?

Scotty: I'm into Facebook - I do my own official page and everything. And I tell heartwarming stories, I use it as a forum for lifting the mood. Like just yesterday I wrote the most amazing story about buying a brioche and a coffee. Look - it's boring as shit but some people say I make their day.

Judith Lucy and Denise Scott in Disappointments, The Playhouse, Sunday 4 December 2016 at 5pm & 7.30pm. Tickets from canberratheatrecentre.com.au
