PUNE: Ten cycling enthusiasts from the city rode from Pune to Kanyakumari, successfully covering a distance of 1,650km.
They cycled an average of 150km a day over 12 days.
The journey started from Shaniwarwada and ended at the
Swami Vivekanand Rock Monument in Kanyakumari on November 2.
Called '
Cyclepreneur', the group comprises riders between 13 and 53 years of age, who come from all walks of life.
The ride itself was aimed at clean living, and having fun. “The entire journey was more of a leisure ride, aimed at fun, fitness and freedom. Cyclepreneurs is a social group. Our motto on the ride was cleanliness, as we spread the message of clean India. Our group had young and energetic individuals. They are to be lauded for their effort in covering such a long distance,“ said
Anirudha Chavan, one of the lead cyclists.
On the first day, the group cycled up to Karad, covering a distance of 185km. The next day , on the way to Sankeshwar, they had a pit stop at
Lingnoor village, near Kolhapur, and conducted a cleanliness drive with help from villagers. The following day , the group crossed over into Karnataka, and stopped at Dandeli after covering 127km. Throughout their journey , the group stopped at various places to spread awareness about cleanliness. Just past the week mark, the group entered Kerala, and they entered Kochi on the ninth day .
“We had to cover the 97km distance between Kovallam and Kanyakumari. As it was last day , everyone was eager. However, it was hot and humid, so we took it easy . We finally reached Kanyakumari at 2.45pm,“ Chavan added.
