Kushinagar: Stating the government’s aim to take the country towards a cashless economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday pushed hard the use of mobile apps for financial transactions and motivated people to begin using the technology. Modi also hit out at the Opposition for condemning the demonetisation move, which, he said was intended to target hoarding of black money.
“The government is trying to shut out corruption and black money, while the Opposition is shutting down the country through Bharat Bandh,” the Prime Minister said.
Addressing a parivartan maharally at Kushingar, Modi said on November 8 he had warned there would be some problems and had sought 50 days to bring normalcy. Public extended overwhelming support, he said and it is only 20 days since the announcement.
The government is taking every measure to cut down the hardship being faced by the people, said Modi and added, “Bade logon ko badi dikkatein ho rahin hain aur chhotey logon ko chhoti (Big problem for big people, common folk facing common problem).”
Motivating people to switch to e-transactions by dowloading mobile apps, the prime minister said when people didn't take special classes to learn how to recharge and use mobile phone, they would also learn to make transactions through mobile apps and help curb hoarding of black money. He urged party workers to ensure bills are pasted on walls showing steps involved in making e-transactions using the mobile phone. “The system will help reduce use of cash,” said Modi and cited example of how 50% people had now begun to buy railway tickets online instead of standing in queue.
Coming to the Opposition's Bharat bandh call, the PM asked the crowdd whether there should be steps taken to end means of corruption and black money or should there be Bharat Bandh, and the crowd came out with a resouning ‘no’ for the strike call by the Opposition parties.
The prime minister said, “Homes for poor have to be built from the money stolen from the exchequer for 70 years and farmers’ fields have to be irrigated and poor children given education from the black money seized.”
“In days to come, everyone will agree that though the decision brought some problems, it made the nation’s future bright,” said Modi and urged people to adapt new technology of paying online.
