NAGPUR: The second and last day of Pt Manohar Kaslikar memorial music festival ended on a successful note. Hindustani classical vocalist Yashaswi Sarpotdar and sitarist Anupama Bhagwat performed during the programme at Scientific Society Hall, on Saturday evening.
There was a positive response from the audience, comprising youngsters and senior citizens alike. Sarpotdar started the event with two songs based on raag Lalita Gouri and raag Kamod.
She followed it up with a bhajan, ‘Guru bin kon batave baat’ which drew a loud applause from the audience. She has trained under pandita Padma Talwalkar, who has also accompanied her on Tanpura in various classical vocal concerts. A graded All India Radio artiste, she has released CDs to her credit. Dressed in a green and red sari, her rhythm was upbeat.
Anupama Bhagwat concluded the festival by playing sitar. She rendered a dhun on Kafi raga. Born in a family of musicians, Anupama, began her training in Sitar in Bhillai with RN Verma at the age of nine. She later trained under late pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee, a doyen of Imdakhani Gharana. She too is a graded All India Radio artiste.
Dr Shreeram Kane, an oncologist and an avid lover of Hindustani classical, said that the artistes were good and they could perform better if only they gott more exposure. He also said that audience support and their receptiveness mattered a lot.
