GHAZIABAD: The Kala Patthar underpass area on the highway, close to Gaur Green City and Mahagun Mansion societies, has become an open air brothel of the city with sex workers soliciting customers throughout the day. The area, a dumpyard for many with heaps of garbage making the boundary walls, also has thick vegetation, making the place ideal for anti-social activities.
Local residents claim that a lot of people like rickshaw-pullers, daily labourers etc play an active role in facilitation of this trade.

"Those living in the housing societies located right opposite the area are forced to witness this shameless activity here which takes place throughout the day. We have children who go to school and its disgusting that they are allowed to operate from here," said a member of RWA, Gaur Green City.
The extent of these activities can also be judged from the large number of used condoms being strewn around the entire area. Recently, residents of Gaur Green City caught hold of an alleged sex worker who was busy entertaining her clients. However, the customers managed to flee as soon as they saw the approaching residents.
The woman later told the residents, “I have come here for the first time from Vijaynagar. I don't really do the business from here. I am sent here along with 3-4 other girls and we charge Rs 150 for these services.”
An elderly woman, who was waiting on the other side of the highway was also caught by residents. However she managed to flee. The woman was later released after a warning.
SHO, Indirapuram, Sheelesh Kumar said the police had increased vigil in the dark patches of the nearby areas. “We will be more cautious of deserted spots of the township,” he said.
