Bicholim gets road-sweeping machine

PANAJI: In a bid to tackle dust levels on the roads, major mining companies have collaborated to introduce road sweeping machines.
The inauguration of the first machine was held recently at Godbhay Junction, Navelim, in Bicholim taluka. The major mining companies that have contributed to this initiative are Vedanta Ltd—Sesa Goa Iron Ore, Sociedade de Fomento, Chowgule & Co Pvt Ltd and V M Salgaocar & Bro Pvt Ltd.
Speaking on the occasion, Sakhali MLA Pramod Sawant said, “I applaud the mining companies for this excellent initiative, which will surely go a long way in controlling the dust issue. I hope many such good initiatives follow.”
Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA) secretary Glenn Kalavampara said, “I am glad that the mining companies in Goa have expressed their concern over the issue and volunteered to procure road sweepers. We are also discussing with government agencies on how to effectively regulate transportation of ore. We are hoping these initiatives would improve conditions.”
