Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a note to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, said the appointment of Alka Dewan as the Member-Secretary of the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) is null and asked that the appointment be withdrawn. He also suggested that all future appointments to DCW be made only after due nomination by the Delhi government.

“It is shocking that a member-secretary was recently appointed to the Commission by your good self without her name having been nominated by the elected government. The nomination of the member-secretary by the elected government has always been the practice in the past. In the present case, the elected government had already nominated a certain name and without considering it, Ms Alka Dewan was nominated unilaterally to the post,” Kejriwal wrote.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal had written to Kejriwal on Saturday, asking him to help withdraw Dewan’s appointment as she was stalling the functioning of Commission.

“It appears that a situation is being created in the DCW where it is being brought to the verge of closure,” Kejriwal wrote.
