Jhajjar logs highest registration of pregnant women

Jhajjar district has recorded the highest number of pregnant women followed by Karnal and Kaithal in October. Mewat has recorded lowest registration of such women.

Pregnancy registration helps curb female foeticide by keeping a track of women till delivery.

Sources said Jhajjar recorded 84.2 percent pregnant women last month while the average rate of the registration in the state was 65.9 percent. Similarly, Karnal and Kaithal registered 82.2 and 80.3 percent women, respectively.

Faridabad and Gurgaon registered 49.9 and 50.6 percent pregnant women, respectively. Mewat recorded lowest registration at 35.4 percent.

Dr Vineet Yadav, deputy civil surgeon, said, “Of the 1,305 expectant women, 1,098 got themselves registered in first trimester of their pregnancy in Jhajjar district.”

He said registration of expectant women helped identify women who terminated pregnancy in second trimester without any valid reason.

Yadav maintained they focused on areas where registration of pregnant women was recorded low in the past.
