People of the Ahirwal region comprising Mahendragarh, Rewari and Gurgaon districts have resolved to launch a statewide campaign from January 1 if the Supreme Court’s recent verdict over the presidential reference on the SYL canal issue is not implemented by December 31. The campaign will be launched under the aegis of the Sarv Jatia Janta Panchayat.
The decision was taken at a meeting at Yadav Dharamshala here today to decide the course of action for mobilising the masses to pressure the state and Centre for the execution of the SC judgment. Former Rewari MLA Raghu Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion.
“We have raised two demands at the meeting. First, Haryana should be provided its legitimate share of the Ravi-Beas river water by executing the SC’s verdict without further delay and second, equitable distribution of the canal water in all regions of the state,” Yadav told The Tribune after the meeting.
He said a special campaign would be carried out across the state till December 31 with an aim to educate the masses about the SC verdict over the SYL canal issue and to garner their support for the proposed agitation if the Centre government fails to implement the SC judgment.
“The SYL canal has already been constructed in the state and repair is needed at some parts. The BJP government should initiate the work on a war footing,” said Yadav.
Earlier, the Yadav Sabha felicitated the formerMLA by presenting hima ‘pagri’.
