Gujarat: 33 bootleggers held in Gir-Somnath

Nine teams of police officers from Gir-Somnath, Porbandar, Junagadh and Amreli districts started raids across the coastal Gir-Somnath district late on Saturday night.

Police officers of Junagadh range cracked down on liquor dens and bootleggers in Gir-Somnath district by arresting 33 persons and registering 50 cases of prohibition across the district on Sunday.

Nine teams of police officers from Gir-Somnath, Porbandar, Junagadh and Amreli districts started raids across the coastal Gir-Somnath district late on Saturday night.

The drive, guided by Junagadh range Inspector General Rajkumar Pandian, went on till late Sunday morning in all the six talukas — Talala, Veraval, Sutrapada, Kodinar, Una and Gir Gadhda — of the district. Officers said 33 persons were arrested after being booked under the Prohibition Act. However, 23 others managed to run away, sources said.
