According to KR officials, presently, all the three stations fall under the category of ‘halt’ stations. Trains stop at these stations for passengers’ convenience. However, once it is upgraded to a crossing station, besides halts, the trains will be allowed to cross each other.

“As of now, these stations have a single-line route. Upgrading these stations will increase their operational efficiency besides their trains’ handling capacity,” said an official.

As part of the upgradation process, these stations will get several passenger amenities such as a waiting hall, current ticket booking counters and covered platform shelter, among others.

Prabhu will also lay the foundation stone for the Rolling Stock Component Factory at Lote Parshuram, near Ratnagiri, said a railway official.

The factory, which will spread over 50 acres of land acquired from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, will be set up at a cost of Rs297.28 crore

“Being the first big project in the area, this factory will pave the way for ancillary activities in the adjoining areas of Khed and Chiplun in Ratnagiri district. This project is also expected to speed up the development of the region through employment generation of around 500,” said a senior railway official.
