Three Kashmiri students beaten in Mohali, Mehbooba Mufti government demands probe

An FIR has been registered at Kharar police station.

Mohali, Nov 27: Three Kashmiri students named Haris Shakeel, Arshid Amin and Owais Aziz were allegedly beaten up inside the college by a group of youths on Friday, resulting in injuries to all three. They study at the Doaba Group of Colleges located in Kharar (Mohali), and according to Indian Express, these students were thrashed inside the vicinity of college. As per reports, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has been notified about the brutal attack. The Mufti government, however, has already taken up the matter with Punjab police and college administration and has demanded an investigation into the matter.

“We are in touch with the local police so that those people responsible for the incident are punished. Our resident commissioner in Delhi has also spoken to senior police officials in Punjab about this incident, “said Dr Inderjot Singh, a representative of J&K government in Chandigarh.

The Kashmiri students claim that a group of youths attacked them on Friday noon with sharp weapons just before their exam. Police claims it to be personal enmity behind the incident. Shakeel had received serious injuries and was discharged from hospital late night. He told Chandigarh Newsline that “I was going to sit in the exam and I missed it because a group.”

Another Kashmiri student said , a few days ago a scuffle took place between a Kashmiri student and non-Kashmiri students which might have made the pavement for this incident. “There are some outsiders who are involved in the incident. We are worried about our safety,” he said.

An FIR has been registered at Kharar police station against four along with others, under sections 233,341,294,506,149 IPC. Police said they will get the addresses of accused from the college in order to get a hold of them.
