Builder booked after apartment's firefighting equipment falls from ceiling
MUMBAI: Parksite police registered a case against a construction company and contractor after the fire fighting system attached to the ceiling of the basement parking of a newly-constructed building collapsed, injuring a security guard and damaging 30 vehicles on Saturday.
"The police are recording statement of concerned persons before deciding to arrest anyone in the case," senior police inspector at Park Site police station said.
The contractor refused to comment.
Society guard Ankush Gole sustained serious injuries in the incident and is recuperating in a hospital. A society resident, Premlal Krishnan, is a complainant in the case. The complainant told the police that firefighting system was not fitted properly and caused the incident.
Super luxuries towers, The Address, are situated on LBS Road in Ghatkopar (West). The incident took place in a basement parking of one of the buildings in the society. After the incident, the building residents stated that they are concerned about their safety and demanded audit of all the safety systems in the building.
“We are not concerned with safety and security system in the building and want its audit. A week ago, one of the building lifts stopped with jerks after coming down in an unusually high speed. It created panic among people. That time too, we approached the police and reported the incident” said Pramod Goyal, who is part of ad-hoc building committee.
After the Saturday incident, the police registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 34 (common intention).
Residents stated that the incident took place in early morning when the firefighting system collapsed on neck of the security guard. He sustained serious injuries in the incident and bleeded when other guards with the help of residents took him to a nearby government hospital. The residents later found that the firefighting system was fitted loosely with the ceiling and decided to file a police case against the builder and the contractor.
