Shops eating into footpaths sealed

HYDERABAD: Acting on orders from the High Court, officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's South Zone office sealed as many as 106 shops -primarily in the Afzalgunj area -on Saturday.
The corporation was acting on the orders of the HC given to the deputy commissioner of Charminar circle to seal all shops that were encroaching the footpaths. “We had taken up a drive to identify and seal the encroachments from Thursday onwards.The court had asked us to identify shops and take immediate action,“ said Yadagiri Rao, a deputy commissioner (DC) of South Zone.
According to zonal commissioner (South Zone) Srinivas Reddy, the petition was filed by one Lakshmi Nivas Aggarwal, a resident of Afzalgunj in 2014.
