CHENNAI: A 60-year-old farmer died of cardiac arrest at his house in Somadevan Pattu village, near Poondi, Tiruvallur, on Friday.
However, the family of Ethiraj said he died of shock after his paddy fields dried up.
Police recovered his body and sent it to the Government Hospital, Tiruvallur for autopsy.
Doctors said he died of `sudden cardiac arrest.' Police registered a case under the CrPC section 174 (unnatural death).

Police said Ethiraj had planted paddy on eight acres of land in his village.
Due to lack of water in canals, several fields had dried up, farmers in the regions said. Ethiraj's family said he was quite worried for a few days as he had borrowed money for cultivation.
Police said Ethiraj's wife, Sarasu, 55, had gone to their daughter Devi's house nearby when he collapsed and died.Neighbours noticed him lying on the floor inside his house. They informed Sarasu and police.
They also took Ethiraj to a private hospital, where doctors declared him `dead on arrival.'
