CHANDIGARH: The proposal to offer a Chair at the department of sports and physical education at Panjab University to ace shooter Abhinav Bindra will be tabled again in the syndicate meeting on Sunday. PU, in its syndicate meeting on October 8, had decided to recommend creation of Chair in honour of Olympian Balbir Singh Sr at the department of Sports and Physical Education, however, it was decided that the proposal to offer the same Chair to Bindra, will be taken afresh in the next meeting.

Since the proposal mentioned Bindra to be invited to the varsity as the visiting faculty, the syndicate members had decided that a fresh proposal should be drafted to offer Balbir Singh Sr Chair to Bindra. In a meeting held by academic and administrative committees in August, the members had discussed that Bindra's coming to the varsity will be seen as the motivation to the sports fraternity, faculty and students of the university.
The creation of a chair in the domain of sports and physical education, in honour of Olympian Balbir Singh Sr on the lines of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair, was taken up in the last syndicate meeting on October 8, which was approved by the House. Bindra became the youngest Indian participant at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and won individual gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The House on Sunday will also take up the letters from UT home department and Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH) regarding the sexual harassment case against the vice-chancellor of the university.
