NAGPUR: In what turned out to be a nightmare for around 15 Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) first semester students of Hislop College ahead of their exam from Tuesday, the Nagpur Univesity issued them hall tickets with incorrect subjects printed on it.
Some noticed that the subject Marathi was printed in place of Supplementary English while others had a mismatch in regular commerce subjects.
Some even had the compulsory English subject repeated on the hall tickets. They immediately pointed this out to the college officials who admitted the mistake and initiated the process to rectify it.
Though the college has assured them of providing fresh admit cards by Monday, a day before their exam, the issue has raised a question on city colleges’ efficiency and their readiness to adapt to the online process.
“If the exam section made a blunder in this case, then all the admit cards should have carried wrong entries,” Controller of examinations Neeraj Khaty said.
Principal Dipti Christian didn’t answer to calls made by TOI. Both the vice principals of the college refused to comment on the issue. They also requested that their names need not be mentioned.
Khaty held the college guilty in such cases. “The subjects are opted by the students while filling the forms online. It is the duty of the college and the students to ensure correct entries are made. Generally, colleges are outsourcing the task because of which these problems are surfacing again and again,” he said.

Khaty also informed that about a week ago, cases of incorrect subjects in hall tickets were reported from two other colleges. “Fifty Bachelor of Arts students from Vasantrao Naik Institute of Arts and Social Sciences and some MA students of Ambedkar College had come with same problem. The colleges must understand that it is impossible for the exam section to know if correct subject has been opted,” he added.
Asked about corrective measures, Khaty said he has informed the Vice Chancellor and the pro-VC about this issue and proposed to levy a fine of Rs 100 per case on the colleges. “I can’t take a sou motu decision. But I will put up the matter before the Board of Examinations to impose a penalty on the colleges.”
